I bought a buncha shitty late era boot looking tapes in Denton at some Antique mall. I’d watched most of them and dumped them long ago. But I’d never gotten around to watching one of them. The Day they Robbed America. It looked pretty shitty and generic you know, but I popped it in
AND IT WAS BLOWING MY DAMNED MIND, SO MANY EXPLOSIONS AND DEAD PEOPLE AND THIS DEATH SQUAD LOOKED SO STYLIN, FILIPINO CHURN EM AND BURN EM TO THE MAX
so I was like oh man, how’d I miss out on this movie
Then it turns out whatever movie was on that tape wasn’t the box art at all. Some how this movie called Phantom War had ended up in there.
Probably one of the best tape switches of all time to end up in my favor.
so I’m going to print out this sleeve and make myself a sweet looking clam for it

Cheesy Triad melodrama that gets surprisingly violent near the end. Lots of brutal well choreographed fights dot the running time though, so it never gets boring
This poster is a whole lot better than the actual VHS art. So enjoy that instead.
Get a taste of the cheese in this trailer. The usual Hong Kong super long trailer spoilers are present, so watch yourself

zoom The Clan of Righteousness
Great movie. Lots of Triad stuff happens, Rituals and meetings and weird hand shakes, and you know, all that kinda fun stuff. It’s about the rise of this one dude in the gang, and all the turmoil that happens within the gang and their dispute with the Black Dragon Clan. Awesome Ocean Shores dub job where some of them decide to have really thick British accents sometimes, but most of them don’t.
The first part has action sprinkled through out, lags just a bit. A pregnant lady gets viciously kicked in the stomach, that had to suck, and various turf hits. But then the last 20 minutes kick in and it’s wall to wall gangland violence. Picture like if an early 90s bullet ballet had a child with a classical Shaw Bros film, you’d get this movie. Lots of 50’s styled gangsters, guys in Aikido like robes, and classically garbed Chinese guys blowing away eachother with Machine Guns and pistols and slashing away with swords. It’s a whole lot of fun. One scene in the hospital where the main guy is trying to protect his boss has shades of The Godfather, except a lady nurse assassin gets beat in the head with bed pan and shot. Stuff like that. I can’t really recommend this movie enough. A BLEWDY GOOD TIME IF YOU WILL

RETURN ENGAGEMENT -

Oh wow, ouch, what a beastly movie. Exemplifies everything good about Heroic Bloodshed cinema. The melodrama is heaped on, the action comes fast and furious and bloody. That’s really all you need.

Triad boss’s wife gets killed, so he kills the people that did it, goes to jail for ten years. Comes out looking for the daughter he left behind. Pairs up with a lady of the night and some teenage street punk girl. Andy Lau appears at the beginning and end as a nu gangster that totally idolizes him. Alex Man and Simon Yam are the two modern gangsters, which obviously means they’re gonna be the ones starting shit and not giving him any face. AND THUS PROBLEMS ARISE. NEW JACKS ARE ALWAYS THE PROBLEM UGH.

The drama is surprisingly poignant and well done. The action is insane. The finale easily rivals, if not bests, the finale of A Better Tomorrow 2. Millions and millions of dead Chinese guys in black and white suits. Alan Tang and Andy Lau pouring Uzis into giant groups of people. So many explosions. It’s a thing of beauty

Seems the DVD is readily available on Amazon, so I’d say you should probably go nab dat piece and watch it, totally worth it.

Finished this tonight. What an excellent movie. Bought it for a friend with a Princesa Lea thing like 8 months ago, so I never watched it as to not get attached, I honestly didn’t expect much from the cover anyways, BUT HOLY HECK, DOES THIS MOVIE DELIVER, MOVED INTO THE PERMANENT COLLECTION
A trio of thugs go around stirring up shit. One is played by a very young Jorge Reynoso, and the other is played by Sergio Bustimante, who loves to wear big white rimmed glasses when he goes out clubbin. They kill a cab driver, then rob an apartment building where they blow away an old couple. The cops are now after them. Lots of bloody mayhem ensues, sandwiched between interludes of Princesa Lea and other pretty ladies dancing at this club. She looks a whole lot better when not decked out in that Intrepdios Punks get up, so I was okay with this.
So yeah, this movie was 100 minutes of bloody shootings and hot naked ladies
I give it 4 1/2 pillow silencers out of 5
